Our Mission The mission of the Jamaican Association of Maryland (JAM) is to unite Jamaicans to promote our cultural heritage as we seek ways and means to advance the social, political, educational and economical welfare of Jamaicans in Maryland and other communities.

 

Jamaican Association of Maryland Jamaican Association of Maryland (JAM) was founded on July 4th 1988. 

  1. To unite Jamaicans, their friends and supporters in membership and in support of JAM as a vehicle for communication and for cooperation among and between Jamaicans in the Maryland area and throughout the United States of America.
  2. To advance the social and economic welfare of Jamaicans. 
  3. To maintain and promote the cultural heritage of Jamaicans living in Maryland 
  4. To seek ways and means to assist in promoting an maintaining educationally, economically, legislatively and socially, the members in Maryland and other Jamaican communities.
  5. To stimulate Jamaicans in Maryland and elsewhere to take a keen interest, and actively participate in matters pertaining to Jamaica.
  6. To serve as a vehicle through which members collectively engage in projects and activities for the purpose of raising funds and collecting goods for charitable purposes and to liaise with other like-minded organizations.

About the Jamaican Association of Maryland (JAM)

Founded on July 4, 1988, the Jamaican Association of Maryland (JAM) is a nonprofit organization committed to uniting Jamaicans, their friends, and supporters across Maryland and beyond. JAM serves as a platform for communication, collaboration, and cultural connection within the Jamaican diaspora.

Our key objectives are to:

  1. Foster Unity and Community Engagement
    Bring together Jamaicans and their allies in support of JAM, promoting meaningful connections and cooperation throughout Maryland and the broader U.S. Jamaican community.
  2. Advance Social and Economic Empowerment
    Support initiatives that improve the social and economic well-being of Jamaicans through advocacy, access to resources, and collaborative programs.
  3. Preserve and Promote Jamaican Culture
    Celebrate and sustain Jamaica’s rich cultural heritage through events, education, and public outreach within Maryland.
  4. Support Holistic Development
    Explore and implement strategies to enhance the educational, economic, legislative, and social advancement of Jamaicans both locally and in other communities.
  5. Encourage Civic Participation and Awareness
    Inspire active engagement among Jamaicans in Maryland and beyond on issues that affect Jamaica and its global diaspora.
  6. Engage in Charitable and Collaborative Efforts
    Serve as a collective force for good—raising funds, organizing drives, and partnering with like-minded organizations to support charitable causes.
